CHAPTER 18

“The Bosses”

“I want you to take this moment and enjoy the experience of sitting behind your new desk,” Eclipse said energetically to his homeboy Rocko, who was now his second in command. “It’s a place of power!”

In his seat behind the expensive cherry oak desk that was now his, Rocko tried hard to fight off the smile that was tugging on both sides of his lips, but couldn’t fight it for long. A rare smile from him spread across his face, ear to ear.

“Go ahead nigga,” Eclipse said with a boyish type of excitement. “Smile, this shit is big and it’s going to get bigger with you as my second. So smile, we the bosses we always dreamed of being.”

Still looking slightly amazed at the direction life had taken him, Rocko responded, “I can’t believe we took the game this far. This is beyond big, we major nigga. Thank you for this opportunity ‘Clipse. No lie.”

“Don’t thank me. Thank yourself for being loyal to the game and me. Real nigga shit don’t always pay off, trust me, I know. But for you it did. Now let’s talk business,” he said taking a seat in one of the chairs in front of his homeboy’s new place of power. “You’re the second from this day forth. It has just gotten realer than you could ever know. In the top right drawer of your desk, is information on all the politicians high and low, including the chief of police who helps keep our operations safe and ‘protected’. Learn that file like you know your own mind and heart my nigga. It’s a major part of our power and the knowledge of this that makes you like me, untouchable. When the opportunity presents itself, I’ll introduce you to the top players. There’s also a file on everyone within our organization, high and low. Learn that file too because knowing the people within the organization is vital too. What they do, and how much money they should be bringing in, and how they should be growing the profits. Potential candidates to take the positions of those that betray the organization or get bodied. So on and so forth. Read this and learn it well. Protect these files as you would your life, ‘cause to lose them would bring us down.”

He paused briefly to make sure Rocko was soaking in everything he was being told, and knowing he was he continued. “This step up is so major that I have a series of teachers that’s going to come through and give you a crash course in marketing, business management, accounting and a few other things. It’ll go on for six months or so. I know this is a huge change to adapt to, it’ll take a week or so, but you’ll adapt to this new level of power playing. The only question is, can you handle the power or will it go to your head?”
